If you want everything from one supplier (TV, Phone, Mobile, Broadband) for a single payment then Virgin Media will be right up your street.

Virgin Media only offer fibre optic services from their own proprietary network (also known as Ultrafast broadband).

As one of the UK’s biggest broadband suppliers then you can be rest assured that they are unlikely to go out of business and leave you in limbo.

They are probably the strongest supplier in terms of download speeds.

One of the better suppliers for TV packages in terms of choice and depth, especially for sports coverage.

You can bundle in broadband, TV, phone and mobile for good discounts.

They don’t have the cheapest prices available. 

They require you to be in a Virgin Media network area, this covers about 52% of the population, so they might not be available in your area.

Their customer service could do a little better when compared to their major rivals.

In the 2022 Ofcom Customer Service report Virgin Media were ranked joint 5th place broadband provider for satisfaction with service overall (behind BT, EE, Sky & Plusnet in that order) and also joint 4th  ranked for overall satisfaction with complaint handling.

Only 23% of customers had a reason to complain, which was the 5th best score of any provider and slightly higher than the average broadband supplier (20%).

As Virgin Media only offer fibre optic deals then you won’t see very slow speeds.

Their basic packages start with speeds of around 125Mbps, but you can choose to pay for a faster deal.

At the top end they offer 1000Mbps+ with their Gig1 fibre optic packages.

Set up will depend on a couple factors:

• Whether you are moving to a new property
• If your property already has the correct type of line installed (e.g. if there is Virgin Media fibre optic cable installed or not). If you don’t have the right line already then you’ll need an engineer to visit to install it.

It usually takes 1-2 weeks for new customers to get setup if you need an engineer to visit to install a Virgin fibre cable.

If your property already has a Virgin Media cable installed then you can do a self install which is much quicker. Virgin will usually get a plug and play self install kit out to you within around 3 days of ordering.

You don’t need to take a landline phone package to get Virgin Media broadband, but if you want a landline phone then you can add this to your package.

Virgin media have a wide and regularly changed selection of deals as they sell such a wide variety of broadband types and also offer many add ons such as phone packages and TV deals.

You can get broadband only deals as well as TV bundle deals.

You can also bundle in mobile services to your deal as Virgin Media and O2 are part of the same company.

Virgin Media do offer a number of discounted social tariffs for new and existing customers who are in receipt of Universal Credit.

These contracts offer a more basic broadband connection and start from £12.50 a month with no long term contracts.

Virgin Media started out as a cable TV operator so they offer lots of choice when it comes to TV packages.

You can get a huge range of TV packages depending on what channels you want and how much you want to spend.

Virgin Media is owned by VMED O2 UK Limited which was formed when Virgin Media and O2 merged in 2021.

In 2023 the ‘One Touch Switch’ process launched in the UK. This makes the switching process between broadband suppliers incredibly simple and seamless.

All you need to do is sign up with Virgin Media for a new service and they will handle the switch for you. 

There is no need to contact your old supplier, the transfer away from them and the canceling of your old contract will be handled for you automatically.

The time to switch will vary depending on what type of broadband you are switching from and to. 

You will be informed at the time of sign up what the estimated switch date will be.

Virgin Media contracts minimum terms are 18 months in length.
